NO-INCITE is an emotion-aware intervention plugin that helps users maintain composure while engaging with social media content. Through interactive sound and motion design tailored to Chinese text patterns, it creates moments of pause when users experience heightened emotions or impulsive sharing behaviors.

Background

In the context of social media, public sentiment shows an overwhelming tendency towards negativity (78-99%), characterized by reverse news patterns where emotional responses overshadow objective facts. This phenomenon has intensified in the post-truth era, where personal beliefs and emotional appeals often carry more weight than factual information.

Research Methodology

Based on German functionalist text theory categorizing content as informative, expressive, or operative, this research employs a two-phase approach: (1) data collection through web crawling and filtering of high-engagement social media texts from controversial cases, and (2) controlled user experiments analyzing how different text types trigger emotional responses in online discussions. The methodology integrates theoretical framework with empirical testing to understand the relationship between text patterns and user reactions.

Research Insight

The research maps text patterns in social media content, from objective facts to subjective attitudes, revealing how different types of content trigger emotional responses. These findings evolve into four key pathways, linking extended reading time, text experience, group responses, and language patterns to specific intervention strategies.

Design Concept

The solution materializes as a mobile plugin integrating three core elements: emotion triggering detection, cooling-down mechanisms, and thoughtful pause moments. The design adapts to Chinese text patterns through interactive visualizations and sound feedback, implemented across major social media platforms for different demographic groups.

User Flow

Interactive Design

A visual motion system that translates different types of emotional text patterns into corresponding animations and sounds, using water metaphors and Chinese typography to represent various emotional states - from swirling identity statements to boiling accusations, each interaction creates a distinct sensory experience mapping to specific textual emotions.
